You Are In the Majority
Posted July 22, 2022
I’d like to revisit one of the greatest evenings of my life.
A judge in Florida had just issued an opinion that effectively said that you and I are not the bad guys; the government is the bad guy. The entire transportation mask mandate issued just after Biden was inaugurated has been illegal the entire time. And she proved it too, with a very detailed opinion that examined the rationale, the case law, the legislative text, and how this hell came about.
Meanwhile, I sat reflecting on how many times I’ve been threatened with criminal penalties for longer than a year. How many times I’ve been scolded that if I don’t comply immediately, I will never fly again. How many times some bloke on a train has told me that unless I get this mask over my nose, the train will be stopped and I’ll be thrown out into sticks and weeds and I’ll have to forage for food until someone finds me.
Then in an instant, it was all gone. And what happened? Travelers cheered. The workers too. The videos are everywhere. It turns out that we are not in the minority. The people who did this to us are in the minority. That’s a very gratifying reality and should give us all hope that all is not lost.
Truth is that the pandemic response — the “great reset” — was the product of a tiny group of fanatics who probably sincerely believed that they had the power and intelligence to arrest a respiratory virus using all the right tools. They convinced themselves of this and entered into their little opinion bubble and stayed there. They convinced some money bags to fund them. When the time came, they deployed their little scheme, convincing even the US president.
The result was a disaster for the US and the world. When a new president came in, he got sucked in too and figured his best strategy was to implement the crazy-people vision even harder, starting with 100 days of masking. That of course turned into 16 months.
Now we see that the dream is dead. The virus did what it was going to do, and now it is an endemic part of our usual experience with seasonal viruses. Meanwhile, we have a food shortage, hyperinflation, massive demographic upheaval, a generation of kids robbed of schooling, and a traumatized population all around.
Great going, guys!
How News is Made
Along the way, the news media in this country became die-hard patriots of the lockdown agenda. It’s become utterly absurd. When the mask judgment was issued, you could see reporters practically crying on air. They incorrectly predicted that the Biden administration would appeal. No way, because immediately all the airlines announced no more mandates. So then they started attacking the judge: too young, a woman, a Trump appointee! They just can't let go.
But here’s a story you should really know. A friend of mine posted the following hilarious tweet. It’s very obvious sarcasm.
“I boarded a plane today with my son and mid-flight, the pilot announces that the mask mandate is over. Flight attendants pulled off their masks and sneezed directly into their hands while screaming ‘this is MAGA airspace.’ My son turned to me in tears. I don’t know what to do.”
Pretty funny, don’t you think? Well, get this. A New York Times reporter took the bait.
“Hi Jared, I’m a New York Times reporter and I would love to speak to you over the phone about what happened on your flight this evening. Can you please give me a call or let me know how I can reach you? I hope this isn’t coming too late in your day. Thank you, look forward to hearing from you.”
Amazing! How ridiculously gullible can a person be? But, hey, it’s the New York Times!
My friend very cleverly shot back the following:
“Hello Victoria, I would love to discuss the incident at your earliest convenience. I was pretty upset about the whole thing. Unfortunately, it’s satire that only someone at the NYT would believe. In my time of contemplation, I was wondering how your team deals with the multitude of false stories that you peddle out daily to use as political propaganda and if you could give me advice on how to take my satire to the next level?”
Dealing With Media
Probably four times in my career, I’ve been contacted by the New York Times for various things, mostly of some controversial nature in which the agenda was very obvious. The first couple of times, I spoke to the reporter on deep background and still said not much at all. What’s to be gained? Now I have a routine. It’s called the delete button. I’ve used it against the NYT twice in the last year.
Do you know who gives the media its power? We do. We read. We listen. We speak to them when called. We fear them. They know this. This is precisely how they get away with this nonsense. This is how they convinced the whole of America that everyone loves lockdowns, that only insane crazy people refuse the vaccine, that blue states are wonderful places to live, and that inflation is not really happening.
This seems to be the whole racket of the press, to convince you that the reality around you is not real; instead, they are in charge of reality and what you think about it.
Government Is Illegal
The mask mandate is now gone but the wild issues surrounding it, including the massive gap that separates elite opinion from that of the common person, are still with us.
In my lifetime, I cannot remember a single other time when a federal government rule imposed upon an entire country, one that affected so many people on a daily basis, was suddenly declared to be completely illegal — not just newly illegal in light of new data but illegal all along.
It means that the government, not the people, had been in violation of the law. That is nothing short of astonishing. Surely the implications of this will resonate for many years to come.
It was public opinion that drove this decision. Judges are as aware of that as anyone. That in turn was informed heavily by the intelligence and bravery of average people who had long ago lost trust in the authorities.
I’m not sure when the turning point was in the narrative but surely the month of December 2021 had something to do with it. Cases were higher than ever, and deaths too were a major issue. The Zoom class got Covid, despite all their “precautions” and no matter how many times they rolled up the sleeve for the shot.
This seems to have been the turning point, that moment for which so many people had waited so long, the dawning and entrenchment of a realization: the “public health measures” that government had long pushed on us had not actually worked. Maybe, just maybe, a pandemic takes a predictable trajectory, like the sun and the stars and the tides, and government only pretends to control it.
Remember this as we enter the next phase of the great meltdown. They will tell you not to buy crypto, that inflation is settling down, that the Fed has it all under control, that the government has your best interest at heart, that your taxes are not going up, that there is no new war coming. Take it all with a grain of salt.
